UTSA Libraries Special Collections will have on display a sampling of the newly acquired Southwest Voter Registration Education Project collection that they are working to catalog and digitize.

Reception at 6 PM
Screening followed by Q&A at 6:30 PM

This fifty four minute PBS documentary features Willie Velzsquez, a San Antonio Westside native and 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s University whom founded the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously by President Clinton in 1995. “The SWVREP launched over 1,00 voter registration drives in 200 cities, paving the way for Latinos to have a voice in government and underscoring the growing power of the Latino vote…”
