On January 15, 2017, writers across the United States and in Europe will come together for Writers Resist, a “re-inauguration” of our shared commitment to the spirit of compassion, equality, free speech, and the fundamental ideals of democracy. “Writers Resist: SATX” is San Antonio’s participation in this international event. It will be a mass reading of South Texas poets and writers, each reading for 3 minutes, from 1 to 8pm on Sunday January 15th at the Alamo Beer Brewery at 415 Burnet St, San Antonio, TX 78202, with live music contributing to this DreamWeek event. Our aim is to provide a creative, inclusive space on January 15th in which we may come together as an artistic community to give voice to the values we most treasure and need to strengthen under a Trump administration and beyond. In this spirit, we join WritersResist on January 15th to move forward individually and as a nation by offering a powerful collective voice for the values we are for in this anxious moment and to resist forces that attack or seek to undermine the most basic principles of freedom and justice for all.
