At least 25,000 textile workers defied a ban on protests in emergency-ruled Bangladesh to demand a rise in the minimum wage, from the equivalent of $16 per month for a 12-14 hour day to $104 per month. The government has promised a rise in the minimum wage to $25 the year before, but the employers did not implement it.
