Thirty unarmed demonstrators took over the Statue Of Liberty, representing the New York Committee to Free the Puerto Rican Nationalist Prisoners. They were arrested by park police after a nine hour siege. The protesters sought the release of the four men serving life terms for the attacks on Congress and President Truman in the 1950s.
