The German Freethinker Settlers monument was dedicated in Comfort, Texas. The monument was originally supposed to be placed in the Comfort Park in 1998, but an outcry against atheists prevented this from happening. The Cenotaph’s plaque says that the German Freethinkers “advocated reason and democracy over religious and political autocracy,” and “They accepted no religious dogma, built no churches and supported secular education.”
