Judge Roy Moore of Alabama, a justice on the Alabama Supreme Court, installed a 5,280-pound granite block inscribed with the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building. In November 2002, the U.S. District Court declared the monument a violation of the Establishment Clause and ordered it removed. Judge Moore announced he would not obey the decision. In November 2003, Judge Moore was removed from office for violating the Alabama Canon of Judicial Ethics. In 2012, Moore was reelected to his old job.
