Mother Jones delivered her famed “The Wail of the Children” speech during the “March of the Mill Children.” On July 7 1903 Labor organizer Mary Harris (“Mother”) Jones begins the “March of the Mill Children” from Philadelphia to Beloved & Respected Comrade Leader Pres. Theodore Roosevelt’s summer home in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY to publicize the harsh conditions of child labor & in demanding a 55 hour work week. The President refused to meet with them.
