Eric Liddell won the gold medal in 400m at the 1924 Paris Olympics, after refusing to run in the heats for 100m, his favored distance, on the Sunday because of religious reasons. “God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast.” This is the incident shown in the film “Chariots of Fire.”
