Both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament contain passages that deeply disturb and offend our contemporary moral sensibilities. Led by Rabbi Samuel M. Stahl and Rev. Kelly S. Allen
2 Tuesdays, January 19 & 26, 7 – 8:30 p.m., $35 / 2 sessions
It is true that there are ordinances and commandments ordering us to show mercy, love and compassion to all of God’s children. Yet there are other laws that reinforce bigotry, condone slavery and mandate the death penalty for homosexuals and recalcitrant children. In this course we shall explore some of these troubling passages and the ways ancient and modern Jewish and Christian thinkers have mitigated their harshness.
