The Nobel Economist Lecture: Amartya Sen

Amartya Sen is the 1998 recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize for Economics Sciences for his work in welfare economics. Sen currently serves as the Thomas W. Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University. Sen teaches courses on social choice theory, health and social justice, reasoning via models, and the foundations of justice, in addition to others. He has edited and authored several books, including Peace and Democratic Society, The Idea of Justice, and Development as Freedom. In 1999, Sen earned the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India. He was also awarded the inaugural Charleston-EFG John Maynard Keynes Prize at a 2015 reception at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Sen’s presentation is free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required.
