SA Heals is taking another step in faith and hosting SHINE. We are hoping to bring awareness and action to help create a better future for the kids facing challenges in our schools and in our country. One of these challenges is known as the “School to Prison Pipeline,” which emphasizes how a school can increase the likelihood of a child eventually becoming a part of the prison system, by, instead of providing additional educational and counseling services, focusing more on isolation and punishment.
SHINE is run in partnership with the Christian Community Development Association’s Locked in Solidarity Week. The night will include prayer, worship, information and opportunities to help with a message highlighted by the photo exhibit presented by 6th grade students from the eastside of San Antonio who are part of the Light Catchers Society. The students have been using photography, not only as a way to document the life and beauty of their neighborhood, but also as a way to communicate messages that may affect them and/or their community.
