In recognition of National Public Health Week, Interfaith Power & Light is bringing together stakeholders to strategize about next steps we can take in improving the San Antonio regional air quality, reduce ozone levels, and mitigate climate change factors. Join us in developing an action plan. Prior to the strategy session (6:30pm-7pm), there will be informal networking and information tables provided by AACOG, the CoSA Office of Sustainability, CPS Energy, and Moms Clean Air Force.

When: Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 6:30pm-8:30pm

Where: Eco Centro, 1802 North Main Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212

Among the confirmed participants are:

  • Jessica Alderson, Wildlife Biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
  • Mario Bravo, Environmental Defense Fund
  • Vince Fonseca, MD, MPH; Population Health Institute of Texas
  • Liza Meyer, City of San Antonio (CoSA) Office of Sustainability

Did you know

  • that Bexar County has the highest asthma rate among children in Texas?
  • the amount of methane, the main component of natural gas, which has been burned (flared) off and leaked in the Eagle Ford Shale was enough to meet the heating and cooking needs for San Antonio for 3.5 years?
  • when natural gas is leaked and flared, it also carried dangerous co-pollutants with it, including carcinogens and neurotoxins?
  • modeling has shown that because of weather patterns, this pollution is reaching San Antonio and even Austin?
  • methane is a potent greenhouse gas, causing our planet to warm, which is up to 84 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in the first two decades after its release?
  • if Texas were a country, it would rank seventh in the world for greenhouse gas emissions? As our nation’s leading emitter of greenhouse gasses, there is a tremendous opportunity in Texas to curb emissions and make an impact.
RSVP appreciated, but not required.
Eco Centro is on VIA bus route 90, and within 3 blocks of VIA bus routes 3, 4, 5 and 20. It is located on the east side of the San Antonio College campus.
