SUMMARY:Regional Air Quality Strategy Session
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of National Public Health Week\, Interfaith Power & Light is bringing together stakeholders to strategize about next steps we can take in improving the San Antonio regional air quality\, reduce ozone levels\, and mitigate climate change factors. Join us in developing an action plan. Prior to the strategy session (6:30pm-7pm)\, there will be informal networking and information tables provided by AACOG\, the CoSA Office of Sustainability\, CPS Energy\, and Moms Clean Air Force.\n \nWhen: Tuesday\, April 5\, 2016\, 6:30pm-8:30pm \nWhere: Eco Centro\, 1802 North Main Avenue\, San Antonio\, TX 78212 \nAmong the confirmed participants are: \n \n\nJessica Alderson\, Wildlife Biologist\, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department \nMario Bravo\, Environmental Defense Fund \nVince Fonseca\, MD\, MPH; Population Health Institute of Texas \nLiza Meyer\, City of San Antonio (CoSA) Office of Sustainability \nChris Stewart\, Deputy Chief of Staff to Ron Nirenberg\, CoSA District 8 Councilmember \nBrenda Williams\, Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Interim Natural Resources Director\n\nDid you know \n\nthat Bexar County has the highest asthma rate among children in Texas?\nthe amount of methane\, the main component of natural gas\, which has been burned (flared) off and leaked in the Eagle Ford Shale was enough to meet the heating and cooking needs for San Antonio for 3.5 years?\nwhen natural gas is leaked and flared\, it also carried dangerous co-pollutants with it\, including carcinogens and neurotoxins?\nmodeling has shown that because of weather patterns\, this pollution is reaching San Antonio and even Austin?\nmethane is a potent greenhouse gas\, causing our planet to warm\, which is up to 84 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in the first two decades after its release?\nif Texas were a country\, it would rank seventh in the world for greenhouse gas emissions? As our nation’s leading emitter of greenhouse gasses\, there is a tremendous opportunity in Texas to curb emissions and make an impact.\n\n\nContacts: \nDiane Duesterhoeft\, San Antonio Interfaith Power & Light\, dduesterhoeft@gmail.com\, 210-254-0245 \nKrystal Henagan\, Moms Clean Air Force\, khenagan@momscleanairforce.org\, 210-870-9231 \n\nRSVP appreciated\, but not required.\n\nEco Centro is on VIA bus route 90\, and within 3 blocks of VIA bus routes 3\, 4\, 5 and 20.
