“ Evolution of a Black Girl: From the Slave House to the White House” is a powerful one-woman show where writer/performer Morgan McCoy portrays 12 different characters. Her unforgettable performance of these women takes the audience on a journey from Africa during the 1400’s to present day in America.
This journey incorporates rich history, stories of love, and moments of joy and sorrow. Stories of women such as Phyllis Wheatley, Harriet Tubman, Maggie Walker, Madam C.J. Walker, Rosa Parks, Shirley Chisholm, Josephine Baker, and Michelle Obama are creatively told throughout this show.
“Evolution of a Black Girl…” strategically describes current epidemics that challenge today’s society in hopes that the voices of the past can offer solutions to save the future. “Evolution of a Black Girl…” tells a universal story that all can relate and transcends culture, age, and gender. The twelve monologues in the show are perfectly woven together and designed to educate, entertain, and encourage all who see it to strive for excellence!
