Muslim and Christian women discuss wisdom for peacebuilding from their traditions

March 1, Wednesday, 7 pm Panel discussion (Preceded by the film Pray the Devil Back to Hell at 6 pm) University of the Incarnate Word Library Special Collections Room.

Pope Francis in his message for the World Day of Peace gave examples such as the Muslim Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan. “Women in particular are often leaders of nonviolence, as for example, was Leymah Gbowee and the thousands of Liberian women,” Pope Francis states. She gathered Muslim and Christian women who organized “nonviolent protest that resulted in high level peace talks to end the second civil war in Liberia.”

For those who would like to come at 6 pm, the award-winning film about the Nobel Laureate Laymah Gbowee, Pray the Devil Back to Hell will be shown. This documentary shows the social unrest in the West African Republic of Liberia, where civil war tore the nation apart until women united for peace.
