Lecture & Webcast: Science, a Tool for Justice

February 10, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Attend in person or via Webcast.

Science: A Tool for Justice, presented by Griffin P. Rodgers, M.D., MACP, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

Common, chronic, costly and consequential diseases – including type 2 diabetes, obesity, kidney disease and liver disease – disproportionately affect people of color. Biomedical research offers tremendous opportunity to reduce the impact of health disparities, in effect harnessing the power of science as a tool for justice. Equally important are translation efforts to see if research findings are scalable and can be brought to at-risk populations.

The event represents the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio’s Frank Bryant Jr., M.D. Memorial Lecture in Medical Ethics, held in February in honor of Black History Month.
