Film Screening: The New Black @ The McNay

January 16, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10

The New Black is a documentary that tells the story of how African-American and AA faith based communities are grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights. Within this film there are insights into the current political and social landscape, it seems critical – perhaps even urgent – to have a conversation about civil rights, equality and progress in these United States. The simultaneous expansion and erosion of liberties that fall into the category of “inalienable rights” seems, at the very least, reason to be both vigilant and wary. For those whose identities exist within both the LGBTQA and other minority and marginalized communities, it’s a familiar story. The Supreme court’s recent rulings hold both promising and ominous implications, and are yet another reminder of the shifting ground on which so many rights and protections rest.

After the film there will be a panel discussion with an insightful question and answer period we invite everyone from all communities to attend this powerful event!

This event is sponsored by The Awakening Spiritual Community and is one of the only dream week events with the focus on the LGBTQ community please come and show your support and lend you thoughts and voice for change
