Capital Punishment in Texas (CPITX)
AP Art Lab and S.M.A.R.T. Project Space 1906 S. Flores
Opening reception:
Saturday, May 9th 7PM-10PM
For the 2014-2015 school year, artist Mark Menjivar and educator Ryan Sprott have been working with a group of 30 students at the International School of the Americas to explore capital punishment in Texas from multiple perspectives. Using public archives, oral histories, community engagement, and the arts, participants have created a diverse body of work that includes zines, drawings, paintings, sculpture, and reflective writing.
Capital Punishment in Texas is an activation of the archive of works and research that has been built over 25+ meetings this past year. In addition, two participatory projects are being presented that represent the diverse perspectives of the participants.
