Texas Public Radio reported yesterday that there are now ten beehives atop the Omni Hotel at the Colonnade at IH-10 and Wurzbach, where they are expected to produce 2,000 pounds of honey for the hotel kitchen each year. Once the leaves fall, I’ll be able to see that rooftop from my back yard. Hope some of the 150,000 bees — relocated from a Westside attic — make their way to my flowerbeds and vegetable patch.

About 75% of the world’s crops depend, in some degree, on animal pollination. USDA and EPA announced two listening sessions on pollinator health, requesting feedback to inform a strategy to address the decline of these critical species. You can take part in the online discussion  on November 17 and provide comments on proposed regulations through November 24.

Everything you need to know to participate is one the Beyond Pesticides Web site.
