Monday’s Monument: Paris Wall of Peace
Starting today, the peaceCENTER’s Web site will be featuring a peace monument every Monday. We’ll continue doing this until we run out of monuments, which should be . . . never. Today we’re looking at the Paris Wall for Peace (Mur de la Paix), installed in 2000; peaceCENTER co-founder Rosalyn Falcón Collier stumbled upon it on a French vacation that summer. The gleaming metal and glass panes, situated on the edge of the Champ de Mars (Field of War) located between the École Militaire (Military Academy) and the Eiffel Tower, are inscribed with the word PEACE in 32 different languages and 12 alphabets. It was inspired by the Wailing Wall of Jerusalem; visitors can put their messages of peace in the chinks of the Wall that are planned for this purpose.
