The Peace and Dignity Journeys is a ceremonial run that occurs every four years. It is a prayer run that unites native communities from North, Central, and South America. Runners in the Northern or Eagle route began the prayer in Chickaloon, Alaska on May 1st and have carried sacred staffs representing specific prayers through native communities in Canada and the United States. The runners are headed South towards Panama where they will connect with the Southern or Condor route in mid-November. Let’s work together to ensure the runners have a restful beautiful experience in San Antonio!
Welcome Ceremony 6pm * We will gather to welcome the runners with powwow drummers as they arrive at the park and hold a closing ceremony to lay the staffs to rest for the evening. This will be an opportunity for some members of the community to voice their prayers to be added to the journey to Panama.
Community Potluck 7:30pm * Bring items to share in the potluck! There are runners who are severely allergic to peanuts and shellfish. In addition, some of the runners are vegan. Please consider bringing traditional dishes that will help to nourish and give the runners strength as they continue forward.
Ways to support the Peace & Dignity Journeys:
*Run with the sacred staffs from San Marcos, Texas. They will be at the San Marcos Springs at 11am and run towards San Pedro Park. Contact Maribel @ 210-843-0316 if you are interested in running. You can run at your own pace and as many miles as you feel comfortable. There will also be the opportunity to run as PDJ leaves San Antonio to Eagle Pass on the morning of the 14th.
*Donate money so the journeys can be supported with gasoline for the vans, water, food, and other emergency situations while in Mexico. One of the vans is in need of a new tire. We will be accepting donations at this event as well as online.
**This is an alcohol & drug free event**
