World Refugee Day Festival

June 14, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join the Center for Refugee Services volunteers and clients for an Open House at Center for Refugee Services on Sunday, June 14 from 5 pm – 8 pm. This will be a smaller event than previous years but still important as we recognize and honor the many cultures and languages in our local refugee communities. Please join us for this evening of music, entertainment, food and fellowship with our newest neighbors.

This year, Dana Clark has planned some wonderful music, including the drum circle that has been ongoing at CRS for a couple of months. If you have never been involved in a drum circle it is an experience you will not forget. No musical experience is required. People of all ages are welcome to attend this family friendly event.

This celebration occurs 3 days before the beginning of Ramadan. We hope the change in time will attract more working refugees who have been unable to participate in past years because of work schedules.

This year, we want to pay special tribute to the Muslim people of Burma (Myannmar), the Rohingya people, who are experiencing ongoing persecution and displacement in their country. As you may know from the news reports, many Rohingya people fleeing violence by boat are being turned away from neighboring countries and hundreds of lives have been lost. Please pray for them and for an end to violence worldwide that forces people to flee their homes.
