You asked for it. You got it.
Less than 24 hours after swearing into office, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg will call on his fellow elected leaders to get real about climate change. Brave and compassionate San Antonians have twice rallied to put this item on the city agenda. Now we have to make sure we Seal the Deal.
Days after Trump’s reversal on the Paris Agreement—a coalition of more than 30 local labor, social justice, faith environmental, indigenous, and business groups banded together to demand San Antonio take a stand. Our numbers are still growing, as news of the movement expands.
We rallied publicly around two demands:
1. The San Antonio mayor join the mayors of Houston, Dallas, and Austin—and nearly 300 of their colleagues from around the country—in committing to adopt, honor, and uphold the the goals enshrined in the Paris Agreement, a pledge by nearly 200 nations to work together to avert climate catastrophe.
2. Our mayor and city council commit to funding and helping develop a community-led Climate Action Plan that works w/ our residents, advancing their interests—particularly those at most threat from rising temperatures and extreme weather—and to put our city on a path to 100-percent renewable power ASAP.
No mistake, we are on the cusp of a major win. Now it is up to all of us to demonstrate to our newly seated council that this city stands together when it comes to the health and security of our families at home and for all of our relations around the world.
Seal the Deal!
