The St. Mary’s School of Law and Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of San Antonio invite members of the legal community from all faiths to the 63rd Annual Red Mass at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the San Fernando Cathedral.
The custom of a special Mass for the judicial community arose in France, England and Italy in the early 13th century to mark the opening of the courts of law and to ask guidance for all who seek justice. It became known as Red Mass from the color of the priests’ vestmants and judges’ robes.
This tradition continues today in San Antonio as a time for member of the legal community of all faiths to come together for the cause of justice.
