Panel on Islamaphobia @TrinityU

April 19, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Our country and our community are seeing a sharp increase in Islamophobia – violence, bigotry, and hate speech directed at Muslims and people thought to be Muslim. This panel brings together four local experts to discuss Islamophobia and the political context in which it arises and spreads. We are hoping to promote a greater community awareness and understanding of this growing and divisive form of prejudice.

The speakers will be:

– Simran Jeet Singh (Trinity University Dept of Religion)
– Habiba Noor (Independent writer and scholar, instructor at Trinity University)
– Sarwat Husain (President of the San Antonio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations)
– Sarah Beth Kaufman (Trinity University Dept of Sociology and Anthropology)
