Tuesday, Jan. 13; 7 – 9 p.m.; $15 or $60 for series

Hospitality is a hallmark of Middle Eastern and Islamic culture. Get to know our San Antonio neighbors of Middle Eastern heritage through their stories and samples of their delicious foods in this first class. Yasmine Amir and others will highlight cultural traditions and special dishes. Through their hospitality you will make new friends and learn more about the rich, vibrant culture of the Middle East. Narjis Pierre co-founded the San Antonio Muslim Women’s Association, and has been a speaker on the Qur’an and Islamic topics. Yasmine, who came to San Antonio as a student from Iraq, has a M.S. in Psychology and has served as an international student adviser.

Speaker Series on Islam
The SoL Center opens the Winter/Spring season with a series of five classes focusing on “Islam—Hospitality and Diversity.” We offer this series to help counteract the inadequate representations of the Islamic faith presented by the media. Many of our friends and neighbors of Arab and Middle Eastern heritage suffer from the emphasis on the most extremist, violent groups of their faith as the essence of Islam. We encourage you to consider taking part in one or more of these classes to meet practicing Muslims and learn more about Islam.
