Join EVA Gallery ( Ecos y Voces de Arte) and curator David Zamora Casas in welcoming featured guest artist, Nephtalí De León‘s, crazy poetic comedy “LOVE IS CHICANO POPCORN” Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at 3412 S. Flores Street, 78204, San Antonio, Tx at 8:30 PM. No cover charge.
Terry Ybañez will read a poem inspired by Nephtalí. Lorraine San Miguel will join him in his presentation.
Nephtalí has been sharing his multi-dimensional expressions as a poet, painter, muralist, author of children’s books, playwright, and activist ever since he published his first book, “Chicanos: Our Background and Our Pride”, while a senior in high school. (Book is available from Amazon books, with a 45 page foreword to bring it up to date, published by the University of Valencia in Spain).
His first iilustrated children’s book, “I Will Catch The Sun”, received great praise and has been published in Mexico, France, the United States, China and Spain where it is a required text for anyone seeking a degree to teach children. His writings have been translated into Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French, Portuguese, Vietnamese… , into a total of 12 languages. His topics reflect the hardships, aspirations and triumphs of Chican@s, La Raza Cósmica de Aztlan.
When asked how does La Raza fall in love ? With sweet nothings, of course, answers the Poet ! With words like “Tú eres el fideo de mi alma!” “If you’ll be my tortilla, I got some refried beans to spread on you!” Because honey, “Tú eres el chicharrón de mi vida!”
From puppy love to jealousies and doubts — unto old age! Still fighting but together! Guaranteed to make you belly laugh, such as love entre gorditos, — “Our panzas meet like our lips used to do…” (From LOVE IS CHICANO POPCORN — Look for the ongoing project “Chicano Popcorn” on Facebook, created by Angela Swensen).
Participating artists in the “Amor Infinito” exhibit include a roster of Luminaries: Sarah Castillo, Maria Curiel, Nephtalí De León, Paloma De Los Nopales, Gabriela Grodin, Jacinto Guevara, Destiny Mata, Arlene Mejorando, Prechie, Al Rendon, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Mary Agnes Rodriguez, Debora Kuetzpal Vasquez, Terry Ybañez David Zamora Casas and EVA gallery owner, maker of “Arboles de la Vida,” Veronica Castillo.
