JOSE SANCHEZ
Jose came to San Antonio in 1990 and immediately began the band “I Ching Gatos.” He writes the songs, sings, and plays guitar in rollicking shows that feature a range of songs fit for a variety band – but they are original songs with a decidedly San Antonio flavor – rock’n’roll – folkrock – punk – funk – rock en espanol – kitchen dancing music. The songs are rich with social commentary, cultural allusions, and a strong dose of dark humor, even as the music is bouncy, quirky, and fun! The band has recorded four albums and is currently working on a major recording project. At the coffee house event, Jose will perform solo. Jose is also an elementary school teacher, currently at The Circle School, a storyteller (member of the San Antonio Story teller’s Association), and a comedy writer and performer with Radio Aztlan.
THE WHIPPLES
Jimmie and John Whipple are a wonderful, husband-wife songwriter/guitar duo that have been married AND singing together professionally for 35+ years. Sweet, tight harmonies and a wide range of material, including some mighty insightful social commentary and great songs of survival in the face of odds.
