The Rape Crisis Center CEU series presents: Activating Wellness: Rituals for renewal, sensory self-reflexivity and self-care

This didactic and highly experiential presentation to help counselors explore their personal levels of self-care. For counselors to be truly effective a level of wellness is imperative. Participants will explore the integration of directed mindfulness of the body, breath, movement and music. Participants will learn and experience idiosyncratic movement rituals that serve to activate their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms. The FAMSS (flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and stability) will be presented and worked with experientially as functional fitness sensations that help movement towards embodiment. The modalities being discussed and integrated are highly correlated with empathy, heightened immune function and a sense of well-being. Self-care and awareness modalities have the potential to re-awaken participants to the amazing self-sensing, self-organizing and self-renewing system that they are.
Participants will be ask to wear comfortable clothing to the workshop.
Objectives:
• Learn and experience specific awareness techniques
• Learn and experience idiosyncratic movement rituals that help in improving communication with self, release current stress
• Learn and experience awareness of body sensations
• Learn and experience an integrated approach to re-inhabit your body
• Develop confidence in your own competence to sense, ground, center and contain
Ray Wooten is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling and Human Services at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. He is a Counselor Educator and body-centered psychotherapist in practice for twenty-five years. Ray is a registered somatic movement therapist/educator focusing on soul-centered practices to help counselors become embodied, as well as creating a culture of embodied practices.
