Looking for a socially conscious alternative to Black Friday? The International Peace Market (Mercado de Paz) combines the arts with economic sustainability, international exchange, and social consciousness. Peace Market provides a family-friendly safe environment that centers the importance of moments and spaces where people gather outdoors and indoors together as community.
As one of the oldest annual open-air international market offering authentic handmade goods the Mercado de Paz offers a community-centered alternative shopping destination during the busiest corporate shopping days of the year. Over 100 international and local artists/artisans will offer visitors a variety of artful, beautifully handmade items including rugs, pottery, textiles, hand-embroidered clothing, paintings, sculptures y más, filling the two-story building, the back patio and spilling out into the street.
Join the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in celebrating 27 years of community building and combating U.S. consumer culture! This year the market will be held on Friday, November 25th and Saturday, November 26, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 922 San Pedro Ave.
Admission is free. The market will also offer live music from local performers and affordable and delicious food options for the weary shopper from tamales to vegan menudo.
The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center is located 1.5 miles north of the downtown library on San Pedro and Evergreen St. across from the VIA offices. Parking will be at the SAC parking lot and there will be go-carts to drive you from the parking lot to the Mercado.
