SUMMARY:Working Together\, Building Digitally Inclusive Communities
DESCRIPTION: \nWhat are Digitally Inclusive Communities? To answer that local leaders\, Internet service providers\, and organizations have been exploring ways to bridge San Antonio’s digital divide. Digital Inclusion brings together resources\, high speed internet access\, digital literacy tools and training in order to promote success throughout our communities for all individuals navigating and participating in the digital universe. To ensure all San Antonians and neighborhoods have the Internet speeds and connections needed for civic participation\, employment opportunities\, lifelong learning\, and critical online services we want to answer the following questions: \n◙ How can the City of San Antonio empower communities and reduce historical barriers to high-speed Internet access?\n◙ How do we empower senior citizens to live more independently?\n◙ And\, how can a City the size of San Antonio increase education and career opportunities locally for multiple generations?\n◙ What tools can we provide small businesses\, entrepreneurs\, and innovators with to participate fully in San Antonio’s economic growth?\n◙ Where can we use technology to advance urban revitalization with intentional equitable development strategies?\n◙ What are the needs of our educational institutions & how do we ensure they have the tools to educate our community?\n◙ Can more high speed broadband infrastructure energize democratic discourse and engage us more effectively with one another? \nJoin us for an evening to outline community values and recommendations to achieve city wide digital inclusion for all residents\, community-based organizations\, and small businesses. \nUpgrade SA specifically aims to educate and inform San Antonio’s communities and individuals around internet access on a local\, institutional and governmental level\, providing initial and post-program analysis of the city’s existing resources and most pressing connectivity needs. \nSpeakers:\nJordana Barton\, Senior Advisor at Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas San Antonio Branch: Defining Digital Equity\nClarissa Ramon\, Community Impact Manager at Google: Faster\, Fairer\, Kinder Internet in San Antonio\nEmily Royall\, Data Director at Rivard Report: Security\, Privacy\, and Digital Inequality – How to Protect Yourself Online\nWilliam “Cruz” Shaw\, City Council District 2\, City of San Antonio \n
