DESCRIPTION:Explore the Muslim holy month of Ramadan with a lecture at 7 pm and break the fast at sundown with a Ramadan Dinner at 8:30. You will learn about the history of Ramadan\, fasting in Abrahamic faiths\, and a traditional Ramadan Iftar dinner. During Ramadan\, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk each day. Fasting is seen as a way to cleanse the soul and have empathy for those in the world who are hungry and less fortunate. \npreregistration is required: 210-732-9927 \nAbout the Instructor: Sarwat Husain\, a national public speaker for Islam and Muslims\, is the co-founder and co-chair of the American Muslim Democratic Caucus.  Formerly\, Sarwat served eight years as the Vice Chair of CAIR- National Board of Directors. She is an award winning advocate for human rights and education for cross-cultural understanding who is also involved in inter-religious dialogue. She is the recipient of the Peace Maker of the Year 2013\, Pax Christi USA (National Catholic Organization)\, Headliner Award for the Association for Women in Communications\, and a Distinguished Alumni award of University of Incarnate Word in 2012.
