SUMMARY:The Paradox of Loving Life while Caregiving: with Maria Sirois PsyD
DESCRIPTION: \n “Care is a state in which something does matter. It is the source of human tenderness.” Rollo May\, Psychologist \nDoors open at 6:30 PM. \nThrough acts of caregiving\, either as family members\, friends\, or professionals we enter into a territory of significance\, one in which we see others as mattering. We choose deliberately to alleviate suffering and to provide guidance and comfort. This very choice — noble\, kind and meaningful — can be the choice\, however\, that brings suffering of it’s own. As caregivers our lives or work can become constricted by time pressures\, confusing diagnoses and symptoms\, increased worry and doubt\, and the presence of chronic pain or sorrow. It becomes hard\, sometimes\, to love our lives while care for others. In this conversation\, \nMaria Sirois\, explores with us the paradoxes of finding happiness while present to anguish\, of remembering the good as we live with fear\, anger\, sadness\, and of loving the life we have\, even as it may not be the life we wanted. Integrating research from the fields of positive psychology\, resilience and mind/body medicine\, Maria brings us a template of principles and practices that elevate our sense of wellbeing and open the door to a deepened tenderness toward ourselves and toward our own living. \nMaria Sirois\, PsyD\nDr. Maria Sirois is a clinical psychologist who has worked in the intersections of psychology and wellbeing for more than twenty years\, focusing on the resilience of the human spirit\, life flourishing through positive psychology\, and personal transformation.
