SUMMARY:"The AIDS Lady" arrives at your esquina!
DESCRIPTION:The City of San Antonio Department of Culture and Creative Development presents “The AIDS Lady\,” written and performed by Anna De Luna\, at two of your neighborhood esquinas (corners)!\n\n “The AIDS Lady” will play at The Pegasus on Sunday\, March 8 from 6 – 9 p.m.\, 1402 North Main in San Antonio\, Texas\, 78212\, during the venue’s well-known weekly “Beer Bust.” The Pegasus event is free and open to the 21+ crowd. The evening includes fifteen minute performance happenings with “The AIDS Lady” and special guests throughout the evening. \n“The AIDS Lady” will also play as part of National Women and Girls HIV – AIDS Awareness Day on Tuesday\, March 10\, 2015 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Walgreens\, 138 SW Military Drive at South Flores in San Antonio\, Texas\, 78221. Raffle prizes and refreshments will be offered for those tested. This event is free and open to the public. \nThrough her theatrical performance\, De Luna brings awareness of HIV to neighborhoods throughout San Antonio. Free\, fast\, and confidential HIV sand syphilis screenings will be available throughout both events with music by DJ Donnie Dee. \nAnna De Luna talks about her work: “I created The AIDS Lady to reach out to teens and young adults – to let them know it’s ok to openly talk about sex- and to remove some of the stigma/misconceptions they may have. I also wanted to confidentially share some stories from HIV positive colleagues I served with as an educator/tester over the past 8 years. These stories humanize the virus and remove judgement of those infected. Moreover\, these performance narratives help to remove fear associated with AIDS and encourage HIV testing.” \nFor more information\, please call Anna De Luna at 210-218-2459. \nstART Place\nSan Antonio’s urban neighborhoods benefit from the arts by shaping the lives of residents and their urban experience. The stART Place program is designed to further stimulate neighborhood vitality by supporting creative projects that provide meaningful community enrichment and transformation. stART PLACE will encourage the presentation of new arts and cultural activity in non-conventional spaces. \n
