SUMMARY:Rally and Citizens to be Heard
DESCRIPTION: \nCOSA (The City) and SAPOA (Police Union) have been locked in a battle over a contract for SAPD (San Antonio Police Department) for the past 2 years. \nThis battle has continued and developed from common negotiations to court-ordered mediation. Tensions between COSA and SAPOA have been high\, however\, in the midst of this battle\, they have both ignored the most important piece to the puzzle: us (the community). \nThe SAPOA Contract is said to do a number of great things for the city. But one thing it has failed to do is give San Antonio a comfortable atmosphere surrounding police accountability. \nWe\, the community\, are rallying to say NO to the contract. As accountability for an organization that has the legal power to kill an individual\, should not even be something that is up for debate. \nSAPOA President Mike Helle has openly stated that he refuses to address the issue of accountability in the contract. The Mayor\, Ivy Taylor\, has openly stated that she does not believe that police accountability is a large enough issue to address at the risk of continuing a battle with the police union. \nIn short: We don’t matter yet. \nWe will rally at City Hall before walking over to enter the chambers to participate at the Citizens to be Heard meeting. For further details please PM me (Johnathan-David Jones). \nHere is a link to the section of the contract that deals with accountability: http://www.checkthepolice.org/#project\n \nInvite all that you can to participate. So together we can remind our city of wh \n
