DESCRIPTION:Michelle Alexander wrote The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness so that we\, as a society\, would start a “conversation about the role of the criminal justice system in creating and perpetuating racial hierarchy in the U.S.” We are reviewing the first 3 chapters of the book. Please come for a lively discussion and also pick up your copy. All are welcome! Even if you haven’t read all of the chapters\, please come for the discussion. \nThe New Jim Crow is a stunning account of the rebirth of a caste-like system in the United States\, one that has resulted in millions of African Americans locked behind bars and then relegated to a permanent second-class status—denied the very rights supposedly won in the Civil Rights Movement.
