SUMMARY:Martin Luther King's Dream for America and The Struggle for Equality and Civil Rights with Nettie Hinton
DESCRIPTION:\n“We’ve come a very long way. We’ve got a black president\, but America still lingers in the past.\nPrejudices and maltreatment of people who don’t look like you is still pervasive in this country.”\n\nA San Antonio native and the great-grand daughter of a freed slave\, Nettie Patricia Hinton is an effective activist and a civil rights pioneer who fights on to realize the dream for all Americans. She was among the 200\,000 people who packed the Washington Mall in 1963 and she also attended the 2013 march. Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.\, Hinton has dedicated her life to civil rights. As a young woman\, Hinton was one of the first African-Americans to earn an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She later moved away from Texas and worked for U.S. Customs for 30 years. Her job took her around the world\, including to Asia and Africa. When she retired\, she returned to her hometown San Antonio. Hinton has been the recipient of numerous leadership awards. She’s an involved citizen who has been a real champion for the Ellis Alley project in East San Antonio. Nettie also is a member of San Antonio Martin Luther King\, Jr. Commission \n \nRSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/15119968232\nSuggested donation $10 at the door\n \nTime: 6:00pm- 6:45pm Registration and Light Dinner\n         6:45pm- 7:45pm Lecture\n         7:45pm-8:15pm Q&A\n\n\n
