DESCRIPTION:This Lennox Lecture features guest speaker Valarie Ziegler\, a professor and chair of religious studies at DePauw University. The event is sponsored by the Department of Religion. There will be a reception to follow. \nValarie Ziegler\, Walter E. Bundy Professor of Religious Studies\, is the author of The Advocates of Peace in Antebellum America (1992 cloth; 2001\, paper)\, and coeditor of Eve and Adam: Jewish\, Christian\, and Muslim Readings on Genesis and Gender (1999). Her book\, Diva Julia: The Public Romance and Private Agony of Julia Ward Howe\, won the 2002 Trinity Prize\, a $10\,000 prize awarded by the Trinity Press International Foundation for an author who offers new perspectives on biblical\, cultural\, ethical\, theological or religious issues and whose cross-disciplinary writing has broad application for a general audience. Her most recent book\, written with Linda Schearing\, is Enticed By Eden: How American Culture Uses\, Confuses (and Sometimes Abuses) Adam and Eve. She has also written and given talks on North American peace movements\, on women and fundamentalism\, and on Elvis; and she teaches in the areas of women and religion as well as American Religions\, and the history of Christianity. She is on the editorial board of Religion and American Culture: A Journal of Interpretation; served for 10 years on the national steering committee for teaching and the academic study of religion of the American Academy of Religion; is a member of the Centre College Athletic Hall of Fame; and serves as faculty sponsor to the DePauw Tiger Pep Band. \n
