SUMMARY:Lecture @ the McNay: NYT Art Critic Holland Cotter
DESCRIPTION: In his New York Times column of March 16\, 2016\, Holland Cotter encourages museums to engage in risky behavior—truth telling. Such truths about slave trade\, war-time looting\, or women artists excluded from museum collections have been glossed over or omitted in many museum labels and didactics. He suggests that telling untold truths offers a way forward with visitor engagement. \nHolland Cotter is co-chief art critic and senior writer at the New York Times. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in 2009. He has a BA from Harvard College\, an MA from Hunter College\, CUNY\, and a Masters of Philosophy in art history from Columbia University. \nSpace is limited. Fee (includes museum admission): McNay members and teens free; nonmembers $20; educators $5. For more information\, email education@mcnayart.org. \nRegistration deadline: noon\, January 18. \n
