SUMMARY:**IN EL PASO** Bracero History Summit
DESCRIPTION: \n2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the 1942 U.S. Bracero Program executive order and the first group of braceros that entered through El Paso\, Texas to work in the sugar beet harvest in Stockton\, California. Though the program ended decades ago\, millions of Mexican-Americans can trace their roots to their fathers’ or grandfathers’ entry into the U.S. as braceros. \nThis September\, the first ever national Bracero History Summit will be held in El Paso to honor this anniversary and to highlight nationally-significant yet relatively unknown bracero history. Presented by the National Trust\, this event will be held in partnership with the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)\, the Smithsonian Institute\, the City of Socorro\, and Latinos in Heritage Conservation. \nThis event is free\, but you are requested to preregister. \n
