SUMMARY:Flat Earth Award for Cong. Lamar Smith
DESCRIPTION:San Antonians rally against Lamar Smith’s attack on climate science and climate scientists \nCongressman set to receive “Flat Earth” award \nTexas Campaign on the Environment\, the Texas Drought Project\, 350.org\, San Antonio\, Alamo Chapter of the Sierra Club\, San Antonio Environmental Democrats\, together with neglected constituents of District 21\, will rally outside Congressman Lamar Smith’s office\, 1100 Loop 410 (at Nachadoches)\, to protest his attacks on climate scientists and his refusal to acknowledge the reality of man-made climate change. \nThe colorful rally promises the unexpected\, with Smith set to receive a “Flat Earth” award from a group made up of those wronged by Smith’s dismissal of climate truth–scientists\, parents and young people\, all with an eye on the dismal future promised by climate chaos. Speakers will highlight the consequences of Smith’s attempt to silence the\nwarnings of prominent scientists and point out the repercussions of his actions\, worldwide as well as right here in Central Texas. \nFrustrated constituents cite his refusal to acknowledge the science of climate change\, and his continued obstructionism in the face of near-consensus by the scientific community on what must be done now to stem the effects of runaway climate chaos. \nVISUALS: Protesters dressed in suits (corporate executives) arguing with others in lab coats (scientists)\, protest signs and banners\, attempted delivery of science denying award to Rep. Smith’s office. \nBACKGROUND: Smith’s actions take place against a background of concern on climate as warm weather in Texas continues to break records and drought maintains a grip on the state. \nNote: Protest begins at 1PM\, but we’re asking everyone to arrive at 12:45 for organizing and media. \n
