DESCRIPTION:The Ware Lecture by Dr. Cornel West will be live-streamed to the Fellowship Hall of the First Unitarian Universalist Church\, 7150 IH 10 W\, Tuesday evening\, July 7\, 2015\, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Immediately following\, representatives from the Local Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. and the San Antonio Police Department will enter into a dialogue with the congregation and guests\, responding to the lecture and continuing a dialogue begun at the church in February about race relations in San Antonio. What distinguishes San Antonio from Ferguson?  How do we build on our strengths?  The public is invited. \n2015 Ware Lecturer Dr. Cornel West\nCornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual.  He is the Class of 1943 University Professor at Princeton University. He is best known for his classic Race Matters. His new book\, Black Prophetic Fire\, offers a fresh perspective on six revolutionary African American leaders: Frederick Douglass\, W. E. B. Du Bois\, Martin Luther King Jr.\, Ella Baker\, Malcolm X\, and Ida B. Wells. He appears frequently on television and made his film debut in the Matrix – and was the commentator (with Ken Wilbur) on the official trilogy released in 2004. He also has appeared in over 25 documentaries and films including Examined Life\, Call & Response\, Sidewalk and Stand. In short\, Cornel West has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King\, Jr. – a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice. \n
