SUMMARY:1st Annual From Malcolm to Me:  A weekend celebration of the life and legacy of Malcolm X
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio citizens\, activists\, and grassroots organizers host “From Malcolm to Me” – A weekend celebration of the life and legacy of Malcolm X. \nUNITY would like to cordially invite the community of San Antonio to join us for the First Annual “From Malcolm To Me” weekend celebration. Festivities will begin May 15th and continue through May 17th\, 2015. We seek to join the nationwide call to claim Malcolm X Day and promote a more compelling case for justice in the U.S.\, particularly in the wake of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. It is now time we honor the life of Malcolm X with his own holiday. We seek to answer this call & beyond by educating the community of San Antonio on the life and legacy of Malcolm X through dialogue\, fellowship\, and teaching. \nThe “dialogue” will be a panel discussion which will include the perspectives of:\n-Minister Cedric E. Muhammad\n-Mario Marcel Salas\, Professor of African American Studies at UTSA\n-Brother Mustafa Ali\n-Sister TaKorra Sakina Muhammad\, MSNPA\, CNP\n-Máximo Anguiano\, Public Intellectual & Creative\n-Sister Taryn Springs\nThe panel will speak on the worldly impact of Malcolm X as well as give insight to how his life and teachings are still relevant in today’s time. Location will be the Beasley Brown Community Center 225 N. Swiss\, San Antonio TX\, Friday\, May 15th. 7:30 p.m-9:00 p.m. \nThe “fellowship” will consist of a community block party open to all. The Community will come together to enjoy one another and celebrate the life of Malcolm X. All food will be provided at no charge. Location will be 1721 S. W.W White Road\, Saturday\, May 16th\, 2015. \nThe “teaching” will be provided by Shaykh Said Atif\, Ph.D\, Religious Director of Muslim Children Education and Civic Center (MCECC). This lecture will be the keynote address for the weekend. Location will be the Beasley Brown Community Center. 225 N.
